•The Miss USA 2019 pageant winner, Cheslie 
Kryst, passed away in January 2022.
•She was a lawyer and a fashion blogger.
•In 2019, she also won the title of Miss North 
Carolina USA.
•In 2020, her firm appointed its first diversity 
advisor.

Spituk Gustor Festival 2022 begins in Ladakh
• Spituk Gustor, the annual celebrations of 
Ladakhi culture and traditional heritage began 
on 30 Jan 2022.
•It is held at Spituk Monastery.
•The main attraction of the festival was the 
colorful mask dance locally called Chams 
performed by the monks of the monastery 
depicting different deities such as Mahakala 
(Gonbo), Paldan Lhamo (Shridevi), White 
Mahakala, Protector Deity.



Tata Steel to buy Neelachal Ispat Nigam for ₹12,100 
crore
•Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has 
approved the sale of Neelachal Ispat Nigam 
Limited (NINL) to Tata Steel Long Products.
•The government does not hold any equity in 
the company.
•NINL has an integrated steel plant with a 
capacity of 1.1 MT, at Kalinganagar, Odisha.
•NINL is a joint venture of 4 Central Public 
Sector Enterprises and 2 Odisha government 
Public Sector Undertakings.

Saudi Arabia's first yoga festival organised in 
Jeddah
• Saudi Arabia's first yoga festival took place on 
29 January 2022 in the commercial center of 
Jeddah.
•The festival was organised by the Saudi Yoga 
Committee (new Saudi Yoga Federation), a 
body under Saudi Arabia Olympic Committee, 
Ministry of Sports.




(Important)Economic Survey 2021-22 tabled on 31 January 
2022-I
•Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on 31 
Jan 2022 tabled the Economic Survey 2021-
22 along with Statistical Appendix in the Lok Sabha on the first day of the Budget session 
of Parliament.
•Economic Survey presents the state of the 
economy and suggests policy prescriptions.
• India forecasted economic growth of 8% to 
8.5% for the coming fiscal year that starts in 
April 2022.

🔛(Important)Economic Survey 2021-22 tabled on 31 January 
2022-II
•Indian economy is expected to witness a real 
GDP expansion of 9.2% in 2021-22 after 
contracting in 2020-21.
•The GDP contracted by 7.3% in 2020-21.
•The revenue receipts of the central 
government from Apr to Nov 2021 have gone 
up by 67.2% (YoY).
• India’s Consumer Price Index inflation stood 
at 5.6% YoY in December 2021.
•Production Linked Incentive Scheme was 
approved for 13 sectors.

GCoE-ACE launched at IIT Dharwad in January 2022
 A virtual function was held to mark the launch 
of the Global Center of Excellence in 
Affordable and Clean Energy (GCoE-ACE) at 
IIT Dharwad in Jan 2022.


Tata Group pick SBI, BoB, HDFC Bank to finance Air 
India's old debt
•The Tata Group has chosen State Bank of 
India, Bank of Baroda (BoB), and HDFC Bank 
as preferred bankers for Air India.
•Tata Sons has availed a Rs 10,000-crore loan 
from SBI and a Rs 5,000-crore loan from BoB.
•The loans are unrated, unsecured, and 
pegged at 4.25% (interest rate) annually.
•The new debt availed by the Tata Group will 
be used to refinance Air India's debt availed 
at over 10%.

Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund launches Nifty 
Next 50 Index Fund
•Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC Ltd has announced 
the launch of Aditya Birla Sun Life Nifty Next 
50 Index Fund.
•As per the asset management company 
(AMC), the objective of the scheme is to 
provide returns that closely track the total 
returns of securities as represented by the 
Nifty Next 50 Index.
• The new fund offer (NFO) opened for 
subscription on 31 Jan and will close on 14 
February 2022.


APSEZ's composite scheme to acquire Sarguja Rail 
Corridor
• Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone 
(APSEZ)'s composite scheme to 
acquire Sarguja Rail Corridor Pvt Ltd 
(SRCPL) has been approved by the National 
Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).



•Gurugram gets India’s biggest electric vehicle 
charging station
 An electric vehicle charging station with 
hundred charging points is now opened in 
Gurugram, Haryana.
